uvex SURGE AERO MIPS Road Helmet

Two in one: With the SURGE AERO MIPS, uvex presents a particularly versatile and stylish high-end road bike helmet. The highlight: An attachable cover transforms the highly ventilated model into an aero helmet in the blink of an eye. It celebrated its premiere at the world's biggest bike race: The uvex Surge Aero Mips was worn for the first time by the UCI WorldTeam Intermarché-Wanty at the Tour de France 2024.
The road helmet ideally combines the high demands on protection, ventilation and aerodynamics and nobody knows these requirements better than professionals who spend countless kilometres on their bikes. That's why uvex worked together with well-known cyclists from the very beginning when designing the road bike highlight. The riders of the uvex WorldTour team Intermarché-Wanty around Georg Zimmermann, but also sprint icon Andre Greipel and other uvex athletes have contributed their expertise to develop the helmet.

The modern design of the road helmet, its clear lines and minimalist look undoubtedly reflect the spirit of the times. In addition to its looks, the helmet stands for excellent ventilation and thus for a cool head at all times, which is particularly important on long climbs. The large ventilation openings allow air to constantly flow along the front of the head, and the special design supports this ventilation effect even further. Aerodynamics play an essential role, especially on fast sections of the track, but also in racing in general – and the helmet is ideally designed for this. In racing moments when every hundredth counts, an attachable cover improves aerodynamics: Attached in just a few seconds, the lightweight cover covers the ventilation openings and thus creates less air resistance. The highly successful tests in the wind tunnel were carried out especially for this purpose with professional road cyclist André Greipel. Once attached, even ambitious recreational athletes benefit from the low air resistance – whether you're sprinting to the finish line or chasing the next "Strava crown".

Of course, the quick-change artists also makes no compromises when it comes to safety: A cage is integrated into the multi inmould construction, which further increases the stability of the road helmet. Additional protection is provided by the MIPS AIR NODE LAYER – the feather-light system from MIPS that reduces rotational forces in the event of side impacts. Highlights & Technologies:

MIPS AIR NODE:
When a head rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration may cause the brain tissue to experience high levels of strain. This stretching of the tissue caused by these motions may result in various types of brain injury. MIPS is designed with the intent to address rotational acceleration from impact.
The MIPS AIR NODE system is a low-friction layer laminated to the base of the comfort padding. It is connected to the energy-absorbing helmet lining with Velcro fasteners. In the event of oblique impacts, the "nodes" are designed to release locally so that the padding can slide and the rotational movement of the head can be reduced. The Mips Air Node system ensures movement inside the helmet to reduce the rotational movement of the head in the event of an impact at a certain angle and thus reduce the risk of injury. The system remains fixed until movement is required, as it is only released on impact. The Mips Air Node padding can of course be removed, washed by hand and dried at room temperature.

MULTI INMOULD:
The tried and tested inmould construction, in which the inner shell is foamed directly under the outer shell under pressure and heat, is supplemented by additional polycarbonate outer shells. A seamless construction means that the shells are firmly connected to each other and there are no edges.

3D IAS PRO:
A height- and width-adjustable, anatomical half ring allows you to individually adapt the helmet to your head size. The system ensures especially precise and almost infinite adjustment. In addition, the adjustment system is particularly lightweight without compromising on performance or comfort.
